Japanese GDP is going crazy: year-on-year, it grew by 6.1% in Q1 and it collapsed by 6.8% in Q2, how can this happen in such a mature economy ?
It’s really quite easy to explain: Japan approved a tax-hike at the beginning of Q2, leading Japanese consumers to spend a lot in Q1 and way less in Q2.
And here’s the effect on GDP (reported by zerohedge):
Analysts were expecting an even worse result, with GDP collapsing by 7.1%.
